(They’re building new tracks to connect the future Leslie Barns streetcar maintenance and storage facility to the tracks on Queen Street East.)
Yesterday, crews rerouted the Martin Goodman Trail onto Leslie Street, between Lake Shore Boulevard East and Commissioners Street, as they prepare to landscape the perimeter of the Leslie Barns and build the new, permanent trail. Barrels delineate the re-routed trail and protect cyclists from motor vehicles.
The TTC held a landscape-design competition in 2010, asking participants to submit proposals for the area around the facility at Leslie and Lake Shore. Brown + Storey Architects won the competition for its conceptual plans of the area. Its concept, “Capture the Moment”, incorporates the natural elements of the area, linking the Eastern Beaches, Martin Goodman Trail and Leslie Spit. Landscaping features include new plantings, trees, wider sidewalks and better lighting.
Crews are also working today, Saturday, September 12 between Queen Street East and Commissioners Street. Work starts north of Mosley Street as early as 9 a.m.
