Eglinton Crosstown LRT - Bayview:
Hydro work starts August 24

Metrolinx contractors are working to build the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line.

Starting Monday, August 24, Toronto Hydro crews are relocating overhead hydro utilities at Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East before the Metrolinx contractors can start building the headwalls for the future Bayview Station. Headwalls are underground support walls at the east and west ends of an underground station. They create the frame for the future stations and must be in place before tunnel-boring machines arrive at each station site.

Building the headwalls requires crews to relocate the utilities. Depending on site conditions, this includes moving gas, hydro and telephone lines, water mains, sewers, traffic signals and street lights.

Toronto Hydro crews will be working within the intersection and at various corners of the intersection.

  • North-side curb lane on Eglinton East, immediately east of Bayview:
  • During this stage, Toronto Hydro crews block the westbound curb lane on Eglinton East to traffic. All other lanes remain open.
  • North-side curb lane on Eglinton East, immediately west of Bayview:
  • During this stage, crews block the westbound curb lane on Eglinton East to traffic. All other lanes will remain open.
  • South-side curb lane on Eglinton East, immediately east of Bayview:
  • During this stage, Toronto Hydro crews block the eastbound curb lane on Eglinton East to traffic. All other lanes remain open.
  • South-side curb lane on Eglinton East, immediately west of Bayview:
  • During this stage, crews block the eastbound curb lane on Eglinton East to traffic. All other lanes will remain open.
  • During all stages of this work, crews:
  • won’t block driveways.
  • maintain access to stores along Eglinton Avenue East.
  • may block some sidewalks. Directional signs will guide pedestrians safely around the work zone.

For the safety of transit riders, the TTC may relocate stops for east- and westbound buses on Eglinton Avenue East.

Crews mostly work between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week. Occasionally, they work overnight to complete the project and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion. Expect noise and vibration.

Work continues for several weeks.

During construction of the future Bayview Station, TTC passengers should expect delays for buses operating along these routes:

  • 11 Bayview;
  • 34 Eglinton East;
  • 51 Leslie;
  • 54 Lawrence East;
  • 56 Leaside;
  • 100 Flemingdon Park;
  • 305 Eglinton East overnight; and
  • 354 Lawrence East overnight.
